Part 1 : Getting Started

Looking at these pictures you can see Project NSR is really in need of some care and attention. He was neglected by his previous owner and now has been sitting outside all winter long. Project NSR has become *70K* Click here for full size image *70K*a little rusty too but I was able to start up the engine without too much trouble. First thing is first cleaning up the bike and getting some body work on the bike. The gas tank is fine, no scratches or dents and no rust inside. I want to remove some of the surface rust that has begun and want to fit new bodywork as soon as possible. I have contacted some companies and it looks like I will purchase one of the new NSR 500 style GP seats. The original seat is cracked on the left side. Also I plan to race the bike so I want to improve its aerodynamics. But before I order the body parts I will need to order a front cowl stay which is missing along with a few other parts. Missing parts

There are lots of parts missing on the bike because the previous owner stripped it down, a little too much in my opinion. Here are parts that are missing and that I plan to buy.

1. Front cowl ( fairing ) stay - holds upper cowl to frame and supports tachometer
2. Tachometer - how will I know my engine speed without this ?
3. Tachometer cable
4. Under cowl side supports to hold lower body work to frame
5. Upper and lower cowl

Parts needing replacement

Here is a list of parts that I plan on changing in the near future.

1. The expansion chamber or pipe and silencer - the previous owner drilled holes into the silencer to make it sound more sportier, also the chamber is not the correct one for this bike. It's from the Honda NS-1 so it doesn't fit so well with the cylinder head not to mention it's so rusty looking.
2. Rear seat cowl or fairing. It's cracked and I want to update to the GP style.
3. Right side rear brake holder
4. Foot steps - They are too long, rusty, bent and I want to buy smaller ones for when I begin racing.

Future plans

My goal for this bike is simple. Build a winning racing bike !!! How I will do that I am not sure. Of course I will need to improve my own riding skills. That would help out a big deal and getting the bike set up with a lot of trial and error testing.

I plan to make some serious modifications to this bike very soon, hang on till then.
