April 2011

157K - Click for full size image The April 2011 Bike of the Month belongs to Andrew Robinson from South Africa.
Andrew bought this MC18 model from his friend who did not look after the bike at all. It was in terrible condition and needed an engine over haul, new PGM and complete restoration. 132K - Click for full size image
139K - Click for full size image Andrew first starting by pulling every part off the bike and inspecting what could be saved or not. The frame was sent out to a powder coater and done in black. A complete rear suspension from a MC21 SP model was installed and the adjustable rear shock rebuilt too. The front forks came from a later model SP bike and again rebuilt.
The engine was pulled apart and the crank rebuilt with new seals, bearing and balanced. New Wiseco pistons added and the rest of the top end completely rebuilt including gas flowed power valves that requires welding and grinding to make them flow better into the ports. The ports were cleaned up and de-burred as well. The flywheel and pick-ups come from a MC21 model which were than lightened and balanced. A good used PGM unit and harness was found and installed and spliced to derestrict it. 104K - Click for full size image
162K - Click for full size image Rebuilt carbs from a MC21 were rejetted and are fully open with no box or filters. Exhaust is handled by a pair of HARC PRO pipes with TYGA silencers. Andrew had his bike dyno checked and it put out 69HP which is a lot for this small bike. Click here to see a picture of the bike when he brought it home from his friends place.
The body kit is from TYGA and was custom painted by Racebox Motorcycles in this striking Hiroshi Ayoyama colors. A steering damper from Sprint and new sport tires help too. Andrew also owns a beautiful MC21 Daijiro bike that was featured as the June/July 2008 Bike of the Month. Nice work Andrew and yet another NSR saved !! 178K - Click for full size image

Usually every month I try to feature a different NSR in this section. Recently it has become a bimonthly feature due to time restrictions and a lack of material. Above you can check out the featured Bike of the Month and past Bikes of the Month. Do you think your NSR belongs here ? Then send a few pictures and some information and maybe we can feature it here. Mail me here. Cheers !!
